Therapy for Children, Teenagers, and their Families

Hi there, I'm Shaghayegh,

As a parent, you know that navigating the world of children and teens can sometimes be a bit of a rollercoaster, and I'm here to help make the ride smoother. I'm an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with training in the Oaklander Model, the Positive Parenting Program, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - a fascinating technique for addressing tough experiences. I'm also all about TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

My focus is on assisting parents like you, helping children and teenagers with issues such as stress, life changes, anxiety, panic attacks, sadness, or even past traumas. I hold a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and have trained at Counseling Partners of Los Angeles.

Being an immigrant therapist, I understand the importance of embracing diverse cultural values and backgrounds, just like you do. Let's work together to make this journey a bit easier for both you and your kids.

Child therapy is a unique and important journey. Caring for little ones can be challenging, and sometimes, it truly takes a village. Seeking therapy for children is a way to understand what's happening inside their young minds and hearts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find the answers to frequently asked questions

What is the cost of a session?

My standard rate is $180 for a 50-minute session. I also offer a limited number of sliding-scale slots for clients who need financial assistance.

Do you accept insurance?

As an out-of-network provider, I do not accept insurance directly. However, many PPO plans will reimburse a portion of my fee once the deductible is met. I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most HMO plans do not cover out-of-network providers.
Before our first session, please call your insurance company to verify out-of-network reimbursement and coverage by asking the following:
- Does my plan include out-of-network, outpatient mental health coverage?
- If so, what percentage of the fee is reimbursed for therapy with an Associate MFT?
- Do I have an annual deductible, and has it been met?
- Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per calendar year?
- How do I submit claims?
Some carriers authorized Telehealth during the COVID pandemic but may discontinue this coverage. Please verify with your plan administrator if your PPO plan covers outpatient mental health via telehealth with an out-of-network provider.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

I understand that life can be unpredictable. Please text or email me at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment to cancel or reschedule. A credit card must be kept on file and will be charged the full fee for late cancellations or no-show appointments.

What is a Good Faith Estimate (GFE)?

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the No Surprises Act, effective January 1, 2022, health care providers, including mental health therapists, must provide clients who are uninsured or not using insurance with an estimate of expected charges for services, including psychotherapy. This estimate helps ensure transparency and allows clients to understand potential expenses before treatment begins. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your GFE. You can request a GFE from your health care provider before scheduling any non-emergency healthcare services. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

My approach

Shaghayegh Mazaherian

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, MA, AMFT

Many individuals reach out to me when they realize that merely discussing their challenges doesn't provide the complete resolution they seek. While it's crucial to gain a deeper understanding of and reframe the constraining narratives that shape us, it's important to recognize that not all of our significant past memories and experiences can be fully addressed through conversation alone. The body retains memories that the mind may have forgotten.

As a therapist, I draw upon a range of holistic approaches, including EMDR, TF-CBT, Play Therapy, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), mindfulness, and psychodynamic talk therapy. My belief is rooted in the power of transformation through the establishment of a secure and compassionate connection.

It is my heartfelt hope that, by working closely with me, you will experience a profound sense of acceptance and being truly seen for both your current self and your aspirations. Together, we will embark on a journey to explore and deeply understand your unique life story, identify and release the barriers that hold you back, facilitate the healing process, nurture personal growth, and help you reach your individual goals with the utmost compassion and support.
